Queens, New York, USA

Posted on Thursday 19 July 2007

The other day I traveled via train from Trenton, New Jersey to Queens, New York.  Queens is one of the boroughs of New York City and one of the most diverse.  After taking a train to Penn Station which is underneath Manhattan - we took the Long Island Railroad to Queens.  Once we stepped out of the train station in Queens it was like we entered another world.  Queens is a huge immigrant community, mostly Asian where I was, that there are something like 100 languages spoken within a few miles!  Unreal.  It was a great experience to be immersed in.

On the way home after our meetings we took the number 7 train from Queens back into Manhattan.  The subway train riders changed all the time, at every stop, and every few stops the diversity on the train changed.  It was like nothing I have ever experienced before the change in who was getting on and off that train.  Asian people, then people from Central America, to factory workers, and on and on.  It was really cool.
