I am a Chicagoan. I will always be “from Chicago.” Even though I grew up in a suburb, we all were from Chicago. If you grew up in Illinois you are either “from Chicago,” or the rest of the state. Things I love about Chicago:
1) Beef Sandwiches
2) Pizza (Lou Malanadis, Giordanos, Gino’s East, Lidos, Due, and more)ÂÂ
3) The Cubs, Bulls, Bears
4) The city itself
5) That people drive fast on the highway
6) That people tell you what they really think
These are just a few reasons why I love where I am from. I could go on and on. But, the part that gets me every time I here in Chicago is that the minute I cross the border into Illinois, I know I am at home. I never get that feeling in Minnesota, or when I was in DC. It is just not the same. Those places are all just fine and well, but they are not Chicago.ÂÂ

I know exactly what you mean, Joe. I’ve lived for short periods in Minneapolis, LA and now Nashville, but every time I cross the Ohio River into Indiana something changes in the atmosphere. I know that I’m home. It just feels different.
I agree!
