I talk a lot about StrengthsFinder on this blog and your strengths. Your strengths are made up of your themes, which are groupings of talents. These talents are natural thoughts, feelings, or behaviors that can be productively applied. Those are all innate abilities that you have or you don’t have. But what about skills? Skills are knowing the steps to complete some task or activity.
I have the skill of brushing my teeth. I learned it at some point and I have done it so many times that I do not have to contemplate much about it other than what toothpaste my family is using (we have about three different kinds at any given moment) and why we have those kinds of toothpaste.
A skill that I am working on and have been for some time is how to pick which battles to fight. What is little stuff in life that you need to let slide and what are the things that you are going to stand pat for, or battle against. My boss likes to say that if you take on every battle at some point you will have lost so much blood you will die on some hill you should not have even been fighting on.
So, today as you go through your day, think about what is worth getting riled up over (probably not much) and what is just worth letting slide by. (probably a lot) JVD
