Do you ever get the feeling that you are on the road but you have not gotten there yet? I believe we have hinge points in our life. But before you get to a hinge point what are you doing to make yourself ready for the next step? Getting there, but not yet having arrived. My wife and I were reflecting the other day on how much has changed in our lives in the past four years. She moved, we got married, we both have had multiple jobs, we bought a condo, etc. etc. We could have never predicted all the awesome things that have happened - and some tragic things as well.
But, right now I know I am somewhere on the road, but not yet where I am supposed to be. I think this is a common theme among leaders - we prepare prepare prepare and then we strike out into new territory. This implores those leaders to not waste the time between destinations but rather train and prepare for what might come next. Is this resonating with any of you? If so, let me know what you think - where are you on the road, are you using your time wisely to prepare for what might come next? Are you lost in the future, or are you aware of a possible future but making the most of everyday?

Interesting thoughts today…I was reflecting on a moment I had with a co-worker where she was treated with disrespect. As she told me the story, instead of empathizing, I tried to help her understand why it happened. I did what was natural to me, but not what she needed. Now as a co-worker, I could brush it off and be like oops. Or I could be a leader and go back to her and say, “You know when that disrespect happened, I tried to fix it, and I should have just asked what you needed. I am sorry. I am working on being more aware of what others need and I missed that time. I apologize.”
A small moment in life, but one of those very humbling moments where you need to go back and revisit the moment that you missed.
