Hello! Since I have written last, St. Kates has played two games and attached are the stories. We are suffering through some injuries right now and cannot put our best team on the floor - so, this did not bode well for us the last two matches. But, hope springs eternal this weekend where we have four matches.

Wildcat volleyball falls 3-1
September 23, 2006 – The College of St. Catherine volleyball team lost to Gustavus Adolphus Saturday afternoon in MIAC action. The win puts Gustavus 4-0 in conference play.

Game one saw the Wildcats give themselves the opportunity to go up 1-0 but they were unable to hold on a fell by the score of 31-29. The Gusties jumped out to a quick lead in game two, winning 30-22 to go up two games to none.

The Wildcats battled back in game three and grabbed the win by the score of 33-31. The Gusties closed out the match in game four with a 30-19 victory.

The Wildcats were lead by Brooke Salonek’s (Jr., Montrose, Minn. / Watertown-Mayer) 12 kills. Both Emily Von Hon (Jr., Fairfax, Minn. / Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop) and Kayla Reed (So., Hartland, Minn. / New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva) had 11 kills each for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats record currently sits at (5-9) overall, (0-4) MIAC. They resume action next Wednesday when they make the trip to Winona to take on Saint Mary’s University.

St. Mary’s Story:

Wildcat volleyball loses to SMU
September 27, 2006 – The College of St. Catherine volleyball team lost to Saint Mary’s University on Wednesday night in Winona. The ‘Cats fell by the score of 3-0. The victory marked the first conference victory of the year for SMU while the Wildcats are still searching for their first MIAC victory.

The Wildcats lost game one by the score of 30-22. Game two provided a similar result and the Wildcats fell 30-21. The Cardinals secured the three-game sweep with a 30-16 victory in game three.

The Wildcats were led by Maria Hoffman’s (FY, Montgomery, Minn. / Montgomery-Lonsdale) 11 kills. Kayla Reed (So., Hartland, Minn. / New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva) added nine for the ‘Cats.

The Wildcat’s record currently sits at (5-10) overall, (0-5) MIAC. They will be back in action Friday at UW-Superior.
