Day one of our tournament at St. Kates as described in this little story - two more games today, hopefully we can finish 3-1:

September 8, 2006 – The College of St. Catherine volleyball team dropped their first match of the CSC Invite but came back to win the nightcap and finish the day at 1-1. In the first match of the day the Wildcats faced Buena Vista University. St. Kate’s jumped out to a quick lead to start game one but were not able to hold on as Buena Vista battled back to win game one 30-28. Game two looked a lot like the first game of the night with the ‘Cats playing well but unable hold off the Beavers in a 30-27 loss. The Beavers completed the three game sweep with a 30-21 win in game three.

“We played very well at the beginning of each game but did not do enough down the stretch to get the win, stated Wildcat head coach Nicole Hess. “We played very hard and we had some people do some good things out there today, some of our younger players are starting to play very well, added Hess.

In their second game of the evening the Wildcats face the Lions from Finlandia University. Once again the ‘Cats jumped out to a lead in game one but this time did not relinquish it, and finishing game one with a 30- 16 victory. Game two was much of the same as the ‘Cats beat the Lions 30-17. The ‘Cats completed the three game sweep with a 30-37 win in the third game.

The Wildcats displayed a balanced attack in their second game of the evening. Lana Brand led the team with eight kills with Emily Von Hon right behind her with 6 and Brooke Salonek added five in the victory.

“We played well as a team against Finlandia. “I think we learned a few things in our first game tonight and played much better this time around, stated Hess. “

The CSC Invite continues Saturday with games beginning at 10:00 am. The Wildcats are scheduled to play Bethany Lutheran at 12:00 pm and Milwaukee School of Engineering at 2:00 pm.

We should have won the first match but our kids do not yet know how to finish a game - last year we were not in position to finish many games so this is a new place for us to be, a good place, but a new one none the less.
