Travel Destination: Omaha, Nebraska, USA

Posted on Saturday 15 July 2006

This past week I flew into Omaha, Nebraska, USA for a meeting with some folks at the Gallup Organization to discuss some new partnerships we are thinking about between Gallup and Bethel Seminary. I appreciated the leadership of my boss who skillfully lead the meeting and crafted where it went as we were just in the beginning stages of seeing if the two groups might move forward and collaborate on this new idea.

It is a humbling and good thing to be in a new learning experience as a leader/manager. One thing I was reminded of again this week is that I do not know it all, and I have a lot to learn. Having that perspective the rest of my life will always help me I do believe. It was fun to be back at Gallup HQ and take an in depth tour of how they do business. They truly practice what they preach and everyone who works there has their “Top Five” strengths displayed underneath their name tag on their office door. From the CEO, Jim Clifton, to the front door security person who greeted us when we arrived.

If someday I am given the ability to create or run an organization, I want to employ a full strengths based philosophy. It works, and it is fun to watch. JVD
