volleyball women

Last night I did a follow up StrengthsFinder session with the 17-1’s team with Minnesota Select.  This is the volleyball club I coach for, and the 17-1’s team is one of our top teams.  A few months ago the team had me in to do some strengths discovery and team building with the ladies.  It was a good time and it is always exciting to get to help people that age find out what they are really good at.  They have so little baggage, it is easy for them to see how they are wired and what they can be good at.

Last night we did a follow up where we looked at what marks of careers they might be good at.  We had future Human Resource Directors, Counselors, Social Justice Activists, Entrepeneurs, Managers, Business Women, and more.  It was a blast to look at some of them right in the eye and say - you are so on the right track!  I kept telling them, I wish someone had told me these things when I was in high school.

After we were done, the girls scrimmaged one of our rival clubs - M-1 volleyball, and their 16-1’s team.  This was super high level volleyball, with many of those girls future Division I players.  I was tired just watching them play.  Our team did really well for a scrimmage.  I am really blessed that I get to work with people and help them try and figure out what they want to do with their lives.  It really isn’t work for me at all.  JVD

    April -

Thanks for stopping by - great question - typically if I work with a group the first thing I do is a “Strengths Discovery,” session. StrengthsFinder 101 if you will. This is all about explainging talents - themes and strengths. Then we do some group interaction going through all 34 strengths and finding out how people use them in their lives. Couple that with some directed listening encounters, and you have yourself a half day.

One on One interviews might follow in the afternoon where I dig in more with folks on a deeper level with strengths. Then, there are a lot of ways it can go from there. Email me if you would like to flush that out any more - happy to do it. JVD
