Leadership

Posted on Wednesday 17 May 2006

In my life, I have had the honor of leading various groups and projects. My view on how this can happen effectively has grown and changed over time. The thing that I always come back to is, I have to go with my gut and know that not everyone is always going to be happy. This sounds pretty simple, but I have to come back to it time and time again. One of my strengths on the Gallup StrengthsFinder instrument is “Woo.” Woo stands for Winning Others Over - so, leading and getting people to be on my side can be a tough piece from time to time.

We all have these interesting leadership tensions that go on in our lives. Tensions between getting things done and knowing what is going on with ourselves in a relational frame. EQ vs. IQ - these are important things to know about yourself as you interact with each day. EQ is emotional intelligence - which I worry sometimes folks have not a big clue about. More on that later.
