Advice

One of things I have realized lately is that I have a job, and live a life that for different reasons people seek my opinion out when they are sorting through a decision. I can’t tell you how much I love helping people in this way. The tough part for me is waiting for people to ask me before I just blurt out some advice at them. Sometimes that is necessary but only when I have the relationship with that person where I have that permission to use that force.

More and more as I get a bit older - reminded today that I am no longer in my twenties :) - I hear my gut loud and clear. When people say things my gut is loud and clear, now I am learning to figure out if they are ready to hear what I have to say - or if they will hear it at all. But, life is too short to not say what you mean, so more and more I just let em have it.

With all that said, you need to be careful what you say and who you are influencing. I have to be careful never to be flippant in any advice I am giving. It is a large responsibility, but one I take very seriously. That is it for today. Have a good weekend. It is -3 degrees here in Minnesota. Brutal….. JVD

Nathan - During the past few years I have spent a few weeks on the Hawaiin islands. I got married on Maui and honeymooned on Kauai. My wife and I were able to go back to Kauai last year for 10 days, and plan on going again this summer. There is a town on Kauai called Waimea. I chose Waimea as the title for my blog because I like the idea of where it is, how it refreshes my soul when I go there, and I have such good memories of the island of Kauai.Â

Waimea is not a Hawaiin word that has a direct translation to English. But after doing a bit of research I came to find out this about Waimea from an article I found - Wai, means river in Hawaiin - and Mea is an adjective. The word means ’sacred reddish fresh water’ or ‘reddish brown river.’ If you have ever been to the southern coast of Kauai the water there runs a bit red into the ocean from the Waimea river. This place is where ancient Hawaiins brought people who needed healing after battle, sometimes warriors, and they thought this place would help heal and refresh those warriors.
