Hawaiians make me happy

Posted on Monday 13 February 2006

So, you all know how my wife and I love to travel to Hawaii right? One of the main reasons we enjoy visiting the islands is due to the fact that we love the people of Hawaii. Hawaiians are about the most laid-back, friendly, welcoming, generous people group I have ever encountered. Here is a story:

My friend Mike Lwin from Hawaii was just here for a class at our school. He is in our distance program and does intensives classes here in St. Paul. My wife and I wanted to take Mike, and Frank (also from Hawaii) out to dinner on Saturday night. So we go through dinner, eat at a great place, and at the end Mike will not let Danielle and I pay. Super Generous! Then, once he gets back to Hawaii Mike writes Danielle and I an email thanking us for our friendship, with the subject line of the email, “Mahalo,” Hawaiian for Thank You. What a wonderful blessing it is to know and be friends with Hawaiians. They are so fun to be around, laid back - help us keep a good outlook on things like our car getting stolen, or whatever.

Mike keeps joking with Danielle and I about us coming to work for him on Oahu - it is a nice dream. This is all to say - Hawaiians make me happy! JVD Oh, check out Mike’s church at www.newhopeleeward.org Mike is the senior pastor.

    Hey Joe,
Long time no talk. How is life going for you? What’s new?

My wife’s grandmother lives in Hawaii and we’ve been there twice since being married. I too have found the people there to be extremely laid back and kind. It’s SO relaxing to go because of that.

Lon - I am with you - its like, when you want to merge while driving people are like, no problem, merge in - it is laid back in every way. Plus if you live there, you get to play any golf course for a local rate, even the $300 courses - nice deal for the locals. Maybe someday I will be a local…
